Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2025

We are committed to providing quality information within a trusted environment. This Privacy Policy explains how BusinessForSaleInBC.ca (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and safeguards personal information when you use our website and services.

Quick summary:
  • We publish third-party Exclusive paid advertisements, MLS®/VOW listings from other brokerages, and listings represented by our team.
  • For Exclusive ads, buyer inquiries are forwarded to the advertiser. Where permitted by law and without conflicts, our licensed Realtors® may also contact you to offer buyer representation.
  • We respect opt-outs and never sell personal information.

1) Who We Are

BusinessForSaleInBC.ca provides advertising space for business-for-sale listings and is operated by licensed real estate professionals. Some listings are posted by third-party advertisers (“Exclusive”), some are MLS® listings from other brokerages displayed via VOW/IDX, and some are listings represented by our own team.

2) What This Policy Covers

This policy applies to information collected through our website, forms, checkout pages, and related services. It complements any representation agreements or MLS®/VOW terms that may also apply.

3) Information We Collect

  • Sellers/Advertisers: name, company, contact details, listing information, photos/documents, payment details (processed by our payment provider).
  • Buyers/Inquirers: name, contact details, message content, preferences, and any files you submit.
  • Technical data: IP address, device/browser info, pages viewed, and cookies/analytics data to improve the site.

4) How We Use Information

  • To publish and manage Exclusive advertisements you submit.
  • To display MLS®/VOW listings and enable inquiries.
  • To forward inquiries to the correct recipient:
    • Exclusive ads: we forward your inquiry to the advertiser (seller or their authorized representative).
    • Our seller client listings: inquiries are handled directly by our team.
    • MLS®/VOW listings: handled by our team for buyer representation where applicable.
  • To send operational communications (receipts, confirmations, reminders) and respond to requests.
  • To maintain security, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and improve our services.

5) Advertising Listings & Inquiries

If you submit an inquiry on an Exclusive paid advertisement, we will forward your inquiry to the advertiser so they can respond. We may retain inquiry details in our CRM for operational and compliance purposes and, where permitted by law and with no conflict, to follow up about buyer representation you may request. If you inquire on a listing that we represent as the seller’s agent, we cannot represent you as a buyer in the same transaction; you may proceed unrepresented or engage your own Realtor®.

6) Lawful Basis & Consent

We rely on your consent, the performance of a service you requested (e.g., posting a listing, forwarding an inquiry), and our legitimate interests (e.g., site security, service improvement) to process personal information. You may withdraw consent for non-essential uses at any time.

7) Sharing of Information

  • Advertisers (Exclusive listings): when you inquire on an Exclusive ad, we share your inquiry details with the advertiser.
  • Service providers: payment processing, CRM, email delivery, hosting, storage, analytics — bound by confidentiality and used only as instructed by us.
  • Legal & safety: when required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Aggregated data: we may share non-identifiable, aggregate statistics (e.g., traffic trends) to improve the site and services.

8) Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, remember preferences, and understand usage. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; doing so may affect site functionality. We do not use cookies to collect names or contact details unless you voluntarily provide them via a form.

9) Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. However, no system is 100% secure. Use of the Internet carries inherent risks beyond our reasonable control.

10) Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. Inquiry records may be retained in our CRM for operational, compliance, and record-keeping purposes.

11) Your Choices & Rights

  • Update or correct your information by contacting us.
  • Opt out of non-essential marketing emails via unsubscribe links or by emailing us.
  • Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information (subject to legal limits and our retention obligations).

12) International Transfers

Some service providers may store or process data outside of British Columbia/Canada. We take reasonable steps to protect information in accordance with this Policy.

13) Links to Other Sites

Our site may contain links to third-party websites with different privacy practices. We are not responsible for the content or privacy policies of those sites.

14) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent changes. Your continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
